ADJUSTMENT

A Chiropractic adjustment simply puts motion into a joint. A joint consists of two bones that make contact. In the spine these are called facet joints. Facet joints allow the spine to move in a bending or rotating motion. A chiropractor alleges that vertebrae become misaligned along the facet joints and “adjust” them to put them back in its correct position. I do not believe this to be accurate. Bones simply do not slip off of themselves. There are very strong ligaments that secure everything in place.  A chiropractor puts a force into a joint, causing them to open slightly ( think of cracking your knuckles.)  All joints in the body are lubricated with a fluid called synovial fluid. This allows the joint to move and minimizes friction. Movement and fluid together create a gas.  When the joint is opened ( again think of your knuckles) the gas escapes the joint space creating that cracking sound. This sound is called an audible. It is not bones moving or grinding on one another. It is simply the gases being released from the joint space. This will create a release of pressure sensation and cessation of pain. However it is merely temporary and not the root cause of your pain.

I provide adjustments but I focus mainly on muscle work.
